Kaindorf Games - Platform
Tournament Management Platform

Story
The Kaindorf Games Association focuses on organizing e-sports events for students and adults of all ages.
The first iteration of our website served both as a landing page and a platform for tournament registration. This combination of marketing content and essential functionality for participants led to several issues. To address this, we decided to split the website into two separate parts: a landing page to promote the association and a dedicated tournament platform for participant registration.
The main goal of the newly developed tournament platform was to resolve the issues present in the original version. One major problem was the inconsistent use of design tokens, such as font sizes, padding, and spacing. Additionally, the old project suffered from poor information architecture, with some pages being nearly inaccessible to new users.
I started from scratch by creating a new color and typography system and rebuilding the platform. During the redesign process, I focused on information architecture and used personas to reevaluate existing user flows. This approach made it much easier to create a clear and coherent user experience. Mobile design also became a priority later in the process, as it had been a significant weakness in earlier iterations.
Beyond the core user experience, several important features for tournament management were missing. The previous version only included a very basic user search instead of a comprehensive user management system. It also lacked the ability to collect additional information, such as seating details, which are crucial for in-person events.
We also rebuilt the frontend using NuxtJS to better structure components and styles, and to improve development efficiency. This allowed us to take advantage of key features such as auto-imported components and file-based routing.
Outcome
Since rebuilding the platform, it has been used for over five events and has received positive feedback from participants, particularly regarding the UI design and its simplicity. We also observed a significant improvement in tournament management, thanks to the inclusion of features that were missing in the original version.
Learnings
During the redesign process, I developed my skills across multiple areas of UI/UX design. This project marked my first experience building a design system and creating reusable components across multiple pages.
I also learned that, in some cases, a complete redesign is necessary to make room for new ideas, features, and user experience improvements. It provides an opportunity to rethink existing interfaces and address past mistakes.
